Market context

The San Diego Padres face the Milwaukee Brewers in an MLB regular-season matchup on 13 May at 7:40PM ET. The current crowd-implied probability of 21% for a Padres victory reflects market expectation of a Brewers win, though the settlement window extends to 20 May 2026, allowing for fixture postponement or rescheduling. Resolution depends on official MLB final statistics, with provisions for a 50-50 split should the game be cancelled without a make-up fixture or end in a tie.

Historical context suggests that regular-season matchups between these National League Central rivals typically see probabilities shift based on recent form and roster availability. The Brewers have maintained competitive standing in the division, whilst the Padres' performance trajectory through early May shapes market expectations. A 21% probability for San Diego indicates the market is pricing the Brewers as clear favourites, likely reflecting Milwaukee's recent win-loss record or pitching matchup advantage heading into the fixture.

Key catalysts traders should monitor include injury reports for both teams' starting pitchers, roster moves announced before game time, and any weather-related postponement risks that could trigger the extended settlement window. Recent team performance data and head-to-head records through early May will influence whether the current probability holds or shifts materially in either direction as the fixture approaches.

Resolution & payout

Resolution source: This market settles from the official publication at https://www.mlb.com/. A proposer submits the result to the UMA Optimistic Oracle on Polygon, the two-hour challenge window opens, and the smart contract pays out in USDC.

For political markets the resolution source is decisive. Polymarket defines a concrete source per contract (e.g. AP, Reuters, official electoral commission) and uses the UMA Optimistic Oracle as the on-chain dispute mechanism. With a clearly defined outcome the USDC payout lands within minutes of the final confirmation.

FAQ

How accurate are political prediction markets?
Historically more accurate than polls. Polymarket's Brier score on US 2024 elections was ~0.11 — better than 538 (~0.14) and every mainstream poll. Markets aggregate information with real skin in the game.
What resolution source is used for elections?
Polymarket defines the source per contract — usually Associated Press (AP Race Call), Reuters or the official electoral commission. The source is stated in contract details before the market opens.
Which platform has the deepest political liquidity?
Polymarket — by far. US 2024 presidential volume was ~$3.5B vs Kalshi (~$200M) and Betfair (~$120M). Where Polymarket is geo-blocked, brokers like PolyGram route into the same order book at 0% fees.
How fast do political markets react to news?
High-liquidity markets move within seconds to minutes. A Trump tweet on the economy can shift the "Trump 2024" market 2-5 points before mainstream media has written anything.
Which political events have the biggest volume?
US Presidential election, party nominations (DNC/RNC), Senate majorities, individual state outcomes (Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin), and major European elections. Peak markets reach $50-500M per event.
